In fact, I have NEVER seen ads for adding software and functionality to ANY PHONE, EVER. (except the iPhone, of course)

Just looked at the site and Protalinski was right. There is no search field! To view the apps you have scroll through them on a ridiculously slow cover-flow-ish display.
The site has a green color scheme. Clearly green with envy!

MDN's forum used to be fun and interesting, but now it's turned to shit, with the editors bent on drumming up hits with inflammatory editorializing. The search function was taken down on July 11th, presumably to ease the load on Apple's overheating servers (iphone launch). Apple said the measure was temporary and will restore it soon. Whole truths are much better than half truths.

The Company that make's all my products has a complete ecosystem. Yes, true, at times there are bumps, but in 10 years they have failed me not once. Each time I have had an issue, they have resolved it to my complete satisfaction. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I hope in the future that the company that builds your operating system will become your PC manufacture, MP3 maker and the company that supplies your phone. Microsoft has done such a stellar job on just software, I can only imagine the greatness they would show if the built the entire widget. Now that would be the true WOW!!!

What's amusing is that the Windows Mobile Platform is successful in the enterprise market (chiefly because it has been the only option here) but the carousel for viewing their Mobile apps only works with the Silverlight plugin for one's browser.

Guess what? Most employees at corporations and government orgs will need administrator rights to install the Silverlight application. We aren't gonna do that. Our IT departments will wonder what on EARTH we want to install Silverlight for as a legitimate application for work-related tasks. Most of us may never see the MS App store until/unless MS creates a more approachable portal.

One of my best Windows, Mac stories. My Dad has always chuckled at me using a Mac, mostly because he built me a system back in 1996, installed Windows 95 for me, got me an AOL account, so on and so fourth. So in time I actually started tinkering with it. Then by accident I am watching some news station on my Primestar cable box at like 3 am and there is this story of Steve Jobs returning to struggling Apple.
In elementary school we actually had a computer lab, all Apple II's and comm 64's. Our lab teacher told us about the two "Bobs" at Commodore and the two "Steves" at Apple.
So at 3 am I am paying attention, a few months later I bought a PowerMac 6500/75, 2 PCI slots, OS 8.

Onto now, a few weeks ago my Dad is over (He doesn't laugh much any more about my choice in platforms ) and he wants to check his AOL email. I said "okay, let's go outside" He says "Is AOL doing home delivery now" My Dad is pretty funny. I break out the iPhone, show him the browser, type AOL and hand him the iPhone.
He hands it back after a few minutes and says "I can't figure out how to use it" I laughed enough to make him and I both uncomfortable. He has use Windows for so long that a touch and do interface is to difficult. What the hell has this world come to.
So 10 seconds later thanks to my wifi I handed the iPhone back and he was scrolling in and out of his inbox. Once he was finished he handed me the iPhone and said "Nice cell phone". My reply, " It's actually not a cell phone, it's an iPhone" Clarity always paves the way for understanding, it's just too bad Windows users have never seen clarity from their platform.

First, don't expect much out of you Motorola Phone, unless it is a Q, which I doubt because you said it doesn't have internet connection. The apps install into the phone as easy as one would on your computer. The phone need to be RUNNING windows mobile as an OS. Apps are nothing new to me, I have been downloading them since 2003.

Get out of your Mac bubble. Apple is not catching up, they just take the same technology and make it easy to use so dumb people can use it.

Just a thought.

Get directed to a manufacturer site to find in depth details about the application
Go to a 3rd party online store to purchase the application
Back to the manufacturer site for installation instructions
Back to Microsoft's site to download active-sync
Install active sync on PC
Install purchased application
Sync device with PC

Assuming everything works fine, I can't help but feel this is a little fragmented and convoluted in comparison to apples store.

I think the difference here is that Microsoft were first to do the obvious. Apple decided this wasn't good enough and cut the complexity for the consumer by launching an extension to an existing well known facility to perform all the above steps.
