Two grown men can use it in a private and intimate setting while in each other's company (with a glass of white wine, of course). I can't wait!

In other news, space is cold and dark. Come on MDN! I think we've heard enough "news" about the iPad! We now it's gonna rock! We don't need anymore convincing!

5: You'll be able to rent books

All this price shifting upwards on Amazon, hobnobbing with newspaper owners etc. is designed to get cheap content on the iPad, where it can be DRMed to hell and back. Which is fine of course, as long as we can rent cheap, because we don't want to keep it.

The iPod sold well because content was cheap, 99¢ ala carte songs on iTunes.

What will sell the iPad is inexpensive book rentals.

"People don't read anymore" - Steve Jobs.

Why?

#1: Books cost 10% to print, 10% to distribute and 40% to retail.

Apple is going to replace all that for only 30%, half the cost.

Renting books, like movies, will take off on the iPad because it's a UNTAPPED market!!!

Lots of iPads going to be sold...buy AAPL.

There's nothing revolutionary that sets this inferior product from the rest. Those 4 points that mentioned above is not convincing except for MACTARDS who praises on whatever steve rain down on them.

Do you know how many Windows applications that's out there? If not STFU.

Square screen ratio is a huge turnoff! Ives really messed up! The 4 points r unconvincing! It will succeed mildly. Bring widescreen and webcam, and it will jump off the shelves!

@wedge07

The purpose of this web site is to . . .
1. Get news about Apple and anything related to Apple.
2. Get a feel for what other publications are saying about Apple.
3. Sell adds. (If you don't click on it, MDN won't post it)

Feb 08, 10 - 04:12 pm Comment from: XE1

@ iMaki

Imagine a nice widescreen iPad. Now imagine turning it vertically. See? Kinda useless now.
The keyboard would cover too much of the screen in horizontal orientation and would be too narrow in vertical.

Dolt.

@ Demon,

There are millions of Windows apps out there. Many do not work on Windows 7. Many steal your identity, take over your computer or hijack your credit card numbers. Many are useless crap. Many are obsolete. Most are redundant.

If you had used the term 'quality apps' in your comparison of Windows and iPhone/iPod/iPad apps, well, they are probably close to equal right now.

I am thinking each malware app would cancel out a quality app on the windows side when I say they're equal right now.

"The iPod sold well because content was cheap, 99¢ ala carte songs on iTunes"

$0.99 prices drove iTunes sales.

I know that it is commonly thought that iTunes music sales drove iPod sales, but this is not really supported by what the technology was or the use of the iPod in the early days. The iPod sold well because it was a convenient way to carry a lot of music and it had an easy to use interface. In the first few years of the iPod, about 90% of music on the devices was ripped from CDs.

Feb 08, 10 - 05:22 pm Comment from: leodavinci

@Poppy,

Unfortunately, renting movies via iTunes hasn't really taken off.

Besides, I think most book readers like owning books.

Feb 08, 10 - 05:32 pm Comment from: MacCanuck

John Dvorak said the iPad would fail (like he said of the Mac and the iPhone).

It's sure to be a raging success!

Feb 08, 10 - 05:44 pm Comment from: Hagrid

I look at how I and the people around me use technology and I just don't see a pressing need for this device. Principally because of it's form factor. I don't see my self draggin this thing through security everyday and I am not sure how this thing would fair in a students backpack at school, university, etc. All in all it is very interesting but I believe I will stick with my iPhone for apps and use laptops for portability.

Feb 08, 10 - 06:29 pm Comment from: RicMac

How it will fair in a students backpack? It'll probably fare quite well given the fact that there will be 17 thousand cases for the iPad before it even comes out.

I'm betting that a lot of people would be thrilled to open a standard sized notepad folder only to find inside a computer instead of a pad of paper. I for one have been dreaming of this for years.

Feb 08, 10 - 07:49 pm Comment from: eon2010

it will be the first "computer" that ANYONE can truly understand without looking through a manual for a day or more. The instant on aspect and speed of execution for things like reading, browsing, consuming digital content locally or streamed through the cloud will be incomparable. Those who don't find reading on a computer to be ideal may see someone using an iPad or see one in the Apple Store and make the decision that it is time to join the digital revolution.

Feb 08, 10 - 07:55 pm Comment from: eon2010

Being that there is more screen area, it would be a good idea if the keyboard could be made to be scaled to the user's preference. This way, screen orientation wouldn't be a matter.

"4. Apple leads in defining new computing interfaces"

For me, this is the defining aspect of the iPad that separates it from all other devices, including the preceding iPod Touch. The iPad GUI is unique, new and functional. Watch the imitators play catch up. I'm talking at you Microsoft.

Feb 09, 10 - 01:00 am Comment from: spiff

@ I'm a PC, you truly need to learn how to string a sentence together. Every time you write one of your lame diatribes you make a fool of yourself via bad grammar. You're a Wintard. Pick up a copy of "The Elements of Style" or something and educate yourself. Then maybe we could take you seriously.

Feb 09, 10 - 04:24 am Comment from: Macrelated

@I'm a PC

I am sure PC stands for piece of crap.

For someone so anti Apple, Apple's success must really freak you out.

Given your drivel, (look it up) and frequent posting you are clearly obsessed with Apple.

The iPad will soon be available; it's sales will leave windozers in the dust.

Most Apple fans don't spend time on windoze sites.

You must be so jealous of what we Apple fans enjoy, that
you never will, with windoze.

Suck it dude/dudette!

MAPS MAPS MAPS. How about a device that has all the road maps you could ever want? GPS isn't the complete answer. Many times it is better to just have a map! No folding, No tearing. Everything you need in one device.

@ the PC retards loitering here.
Listen carefully cos I'll say it only once:

Macs run more apps than ANY pc. No doubt. No gainsaying it. Why?
1 - Because a Mac can run Windows in fact Macs are proven to be the fastest most stable Windows machines.
2 - Macs can also run ...... all Mac software. WinPCs cannot.

Now go into the corner and sulk. Sulking becomes you.
