Well I had just gotten off of a long flight and it was about 3am when I was watching. To be quite honest I probably wasn't paying close enough attention. Honestly though, why would someone email me and say they were there and it never happened. It just goes to show how many crazy people exist. You also have to realize the amount of emails I was getting and all of the forums and blogs I was trying to respond to. This whole thing has certainly taken a lot of time from my life. I am so glad it's over, and with really no one leaving unhappy (broken nanos get replaced, Apple investors are happy, and Im sure Nano sales with pick up now that people know if they happen to get one Apple WILL fix it and not say no it isn't covered)
While you all may think this problem is "solved", perhaps not.
Yes, sure the big ipod and nano have the same materials, but the use is totally different. While I cannot shove a big ipod in my pants pocket, I can stuff the nano in there. (As Steve seemed to demonstrate in his intro.)
What was good enough for big iPod daily use may not be good enough for daily nano use. Perhaps the formulation of the plastics in the nano need to be made of a tougher, more scratch resistant material.
And go to the Apple website - you see any nano´s shown in a protective case? A consumer advocate would recommend that Apple recommend to its customers to buy a case for the nano. Or offer a version that came with a case
I'm obviously guessing, but the whole 1/10 of 1% thing is probably not entirely true, you'd probably find it was something like 1000 defective screens were delivered which just happen to correspond to that statistic. Had they sold double the amount they had it probably would have been 1/20 ie not an ongoing thing - and luckily not a problem with the Nano and its design.
Kind of like a bullet proof vest - the materials in a vest that will stop a .22 caliber will not be good enough to stop a .45 caliber bullet.
iPod and nano have different use patterns, so should possibly use different materials in their construction.
The fact that it has the same screen as the 4G iPods doesn't make it acceptable. Why are you guys so willing to let Apple walk all over you? Don't you want Apple to make a better product, or are you satisfied with "good enough"? Apple obviously had a higher standard back with the first three iPods, so why not insist that they go back to that higher standard? You guys sound like you'd rather Apple not admit a mistake than to improve a product.

I went to the Apple store to buy a Nano the second day they had been available for sale. I was horrified to see the poor condition of all of the dozen or so Nanos on display. All of them were scratched to the point that some of the screens were actually foggy and hard to read.
I figured that if they looked that bad after two days of handling, they would look like dog poo in less than a month.
I looked over at the Minis that had been out for months and they looked virtually brand new.
With such an obvious durability issue, I opted for a Silver 6G Mini and am very pleased with my purchase.
I posted one of the first SCRATCH reports on this site and was met with a bunch of rude commentary from the usual group of Apple apologists on this site.
GET A FRICKING CLUE YOU BOZOS!!
The problem is REAL, and I can understand why those who bought a Nano, handled it with care, and then saw it scratch itself to death in a matter of days, have every right to be angry!
THE HARDNESS OF THE PLASTIC ON A NANO IS NOT THE SAME AS OTHER IPODS!!

I got my ipod 4 weeks ago and it is already looking like its 4 years old. I bought some leather case for it the day after I bought it and rarely took it out. If I had the money, I'd sue those apple jerks today!!!
